Plants For Winter Interest

Plants for winter interest

Well a soggy November day today across the gardens of Bradford.

I don't know about you but we are already missing touring the garden centres on a weekend for that certain plant for a particular spot.

Local garden centres in Bradford are full of Christmas Cacti, Poinsettias and Cyclamen which are all lovely and vibrant but it's just not the same as being able to get out in the garden.

There are many plants with winter interest and Four Season Garden Maintenance in Bradford will share them with you to give those who are new to gardening some ideas of what to look for.

Winter interest plants are often easy to care for, you can get some that are scented and most winter interest plants are shade tolerant.

They are also very adaptable and don't have to go in a border, you can put together a pretty planter than can be moved around as each season approaches. If you do decide to make up a planter remember to make sure you have sufficient drainage to cope with the wet weather.

Remember - If your buying compost especially for winter planters and pots choose a good loam-based compost same as or similar to John Innes N°2.

When buying plants it is a good idea to consider all the seasons so that you can look out of your window and cheer yourself up even on the dullest of days.

Popular plants you can look up are:

  • Mahonia

  • Viburnum

  • Skimmia

  • Ivy

  • Cornus

  • Daphne

  • Hollies

  • Coronilla

  • Pyracantha

  • Euonymus

  • Spotted Laurel

  • Jasmine

  • Hidcote Lavender

  • Hebe

  • Cotoneaster

  • Hellebores

  • Helianthemum

  • Santolina
